• Richard W. Saltus and Richard J. Blakely’s December 2011 Groundwork article, “Unique geologic insights from ‘non-unique’ gravity and magnetic interpretation,” was covered by JPT Online, the journal of The Society of Petroleum Engineers.


• The November 2011 GSA Today science article by P.J. Umhoefer, "Why did the Southern Gulf of California rupture so rapidly? — Oblique divergence across hot, weak lithosphere along a tectonically active margin," received coverage in Our Amazing Planet on 16 Nov. and LiveScience on 17 Nov. in an article titled "How Did the Gulf of California Form So Quickly?" A similar article was published online by Yahoo!News on 17 Nov.

• Geology and GSA Today Earn Top Rankings
  The latest report from SCImago Journal & Country Rank shows that GSA's premiere science journal, Geology, and GSA's science & news magazine, GSA Today, were the top two most influential geology journals for 2009 (the last year a full set of data was available for analysis).

• The Apr.-May 2011 GSA Today science article by P. Kapp et al., "Wind erosion in the Qaidam basin, central Asia: Implications for tectonics, paleoclimate, and the source of the Loess Plateau," generated a good deal of media coverage, including a 29 Mar. LiveScience article, "Surprise Force: Wind Blew Mountains Away"; a 29 Mar. MSNBC Today Tech/Our Amazing Planet article, "How powerful winds blew the mountains away"; and a 30 Mar. U.S. News & World Report article, "Winds can keep mountains from growing."


• The Jan. 2011 GSA Today science article, "Microbial communities in fluid inclusions and long-term survival in halite," by T.K. Lowenstein et al., was covered in a 6 Jan. article on "Our Amazing Planet" titled 34,000-Year-Old Organisms Found Buried Alive! This research by Lowenstein et al. is also the subject of a 10-page full-color feature in the April 2011 issue of EARTH magazine (p. 36–45).


• The Jan. 2007 GSA Today science article by D. Montgomery, "Is agriculture undermining civilization’s foundation?," was discussed in a 5 Jan. article Moutain Beltway blog post, "Dirt, The Erosion of Civilizations, by David Montgomery."


• The Nov. 2010 GSA Today science article, "Tropical shoreline ice in the late Cambrian: Implications for Earth's climate between the Cambrian Explosion and the Great Ordovician Biodiversification Event," by A.C. Runkel et al., inspired a 24 Nov. "Through the Sandglass" blog post, "Sand and ice 1: deep time and the struggles of life."
  


• The Oct. 2010 GSA Today science article, "Caldera collapse: Perspectives from comparing Galápagos volcanoes, nuclear-test sinks, sandbox models, and volcanoes on Mars," by Keith Howard, was picked up by Discovery News (7 Oct.) in an article titled "Uncovering the Secrets of the Greatest Holes on Earth."


• The Aug. 2010 GSA Today science article, "Structural analysis of three extensional detachment faults with data from the 2000 Space-Shuttle Radar Topography Mission," by J.E. Spencer was noted on the Arizona Geology blog with a 29 July 2010 post, "New core complexes found with Shuttle radar."


• The Lusi mud volcano, Indonesia, continues to be in the news, with research led by Richard Davies, who was lead author on the Feb. 2007 GSA Today science article, "Birth of a mud volcano: East Java, 29 May 2006." Davies is interviewed in this 12 July 2010 Al Jazeera video (opens to 3:31 min. video on YouTube).


• The Feb. 2008 GSA Today science article, "Are we now living in the Anthropocene?," by J. Zalasiewicz et al., remains in the news. The most recent article (17 May 2010) appears on Yale's Environment 360 Web page: "The Anthropocene debate: Marking humanity's impact." Other mentions include the 31 March 2010 Clastic Detritus blog "What do you think of the Anthopocene?" and a 29 March 2010 Terra Daily article, "Welcome to the Anthropocene." — Oh, and there's also one in Czech!


• The Aug. 2009 GSA Today science article, "The Klondike goldfields and Pleistocene environments of Beringia," by D.G. Froese et al., is noted in 25 Jan. 2010 Calgary Herald article, "B.C. mine exec reaches out to scientists."


• The Nov. 2009 GSA Today science article, "Geobiology: Evidence for early life on Earth and the search for life on other planets," by S.L. Cady and N. Noffke, along with Noffke's research presented at the 2009 GSA Annual Meeting, received coverage on Space.com (17 Dec.).


• Oct. 2009 GSA Today science article, "Did natural reactors form as a consequence of the emergence of oxygenic photosynthesis during the Archean?," makes headlines on MSNBC.com (14 Oct.), DiscoveryNews (14 Oct.), and NewsGuide.us (29 Oct.).


• Aug. 2009 GSA Today science article, "The Klondike goldfields and Pleistocene environments of Beringia," was detailed on PhysOrg.com (29 Oct.).
